Out of the Woods Exhibition & Competition

The “Out of the Woods” Competition and Exhibition is Western Australia's premier Wood Working Competition organised by the Fine Wood Work Association (WA) Inc.

The Competition is open to all, with over twenty categories covering every form of woodworking. Novice and Student categories provide special incentives for the less experienced.

What is the Out of the Woods Competition and Exhibition?

The Out of The Woods Competition and Exhibition (#OOTW) aims to promote fine woodworking. Other than a requirement that wood is employed as the predominant material there are few boundaries. Pieces may be classic or modern, emphasize function or form or be shaped by hand tools or machines. We seek fine woodwork evidenced by clear purpose, thoughtfulness in design and execution, and a high degree of care and skill.

The Out of The Woods Competition is open to woodworkers of all ages and skill levels. The categories for Adults cover all forms of woodwork from furniture making to carving, wood turning, box making and a miscellaneous section for those other works that defy classification. There is also a Novice category for new first time entrants, and a People’s Choice Award which is decided by public vote.

The Out of The Woods Competition and Exhibition also aims to encourage young woodworkers and has categories for secondary school students. There is an open category for each year from 7 to 10, and separate Furniture and Artistic categories for years 11 and 12.

The Out of The Woods Competition and Exhibition is recognised as one of the leading woodworking competitions in Australia.

This year the Out of The Woods Competition and Exhibition will be held October 8th - 9th 2022, in conjunction with the Perth Sewing and Craft Extravaganza at the Cannington Exhibition Centre and Show Grounds.
